Who We Are
In 2026, Dr. Williams established Lakes Region Retina, P.C., with a mission to bring advanced specialty retina care to central and northern Minnesota. The Baxter clinic was designed to make world-class retinal care more accessible, minimizing patient travel time and emphasizing efficiency, comfort, and respect. The practice’s streamlined patient flow model reduces in-office waiting time while maintaining uncompromising standards of diagnostic precision and treatment quality.

Meet Dr. David Williams, M.D., M.B.A.
FOUNDER AND MEDICAL DIRECTOR
Dr. Williams provides comprehensive medical care for a wide range of retinal conditions, including macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vascular disease, vitreoretinal disorders, retinal tears, and inherited retinal diseases.
Although Lakes Region Retina does not perform operating-room retinal surgery, Dr. Williams has performed thousands of retinal procedures during his career and is highly experienced in the diagnosis and pre- and post-operative management of complex surgical retinal conditions. He is known for his careful diagnostic approach and commitment to preserving vision using advanced, minimally invasive treatments.
Dr. Williams and his wife, Karen, have three children and two grandchildren. Outside of medicine, he enjoys traveling, skiing and hiking in Colorado, reading, current affairs, and spending time with friends and family.
Career Background
Before founding Lakes Region Retina, Dr. Williams was a partner at Retina Consultants of Minnesota, where he helped grow the practice from five physicians to more than twenty over three decades, serving patients across Minnesota and nearby states.
Education and Training
Dr. Williams earned his medical degree at the Medical College of Ohio, trained in ophthalmology with retinal and vitreoretinal fellowships, and is board certified. He also holds an MBA and previously worked as an engineer at Procter & Gamble.
Leadership and Professional Contributions
Dr. Williams is known for his leadership in retinal care, including two decades on the ASRS Board of Directors and a term as President. He remains active in major ophthalmic societies and has earned multiple ASRS and AAO honors, as well as recognition among The Best Doctors in America.
Philosophy of Care
Dr. Williams’s approach is rooted in respect, precision, and compassion. He believes retina care should be both advanced and deeply personal, ensuring every patient feels understood and informed. At Lakes Region Retina, he brings decades of experience to caring for Minnesota patients with a strong commitment to preserving sight and improving quality of life.
